Rappers are among the many people who give their utmost best to achieve their dreams. Many of them often come from nothing and hustle hard to get their voices heard. For San Antonio’s Chicano rapper PriceTag, it was a long and challenging road to get where he is now, and he is eager to share the life he lived.

PriceTag was born as Thomas Price II to a family from San Antonio, Texas, where he spent most of his early days and career. The city’s history of musical influence was one of the many inspirations that would put him on a career path to the hip hop industry, most notably the underground Latino rap scene throughout San Antonio in the early 2000s, which was when San Antonio’s music scene was at its biggest until recently. He had grown up with his friend, who had a brother named Core The Emcee, which was a rising underground rapper throughout the city. From there, he had seen many local artists on their rise, such as Big Kree, Namik, and Big Q.

In his youth, PriceTag had a passion for poetry. He loved the honest and raw emotions that poetry had. He was inspired to write his own poems, polish his lyrical skills, and build a rhythm that would later carry into adulthood.

As he grew older, PriceTag began to take an interest in the hip hop industry. In 2018, he made the decision to become an independent rapper and put his life and skills to the test.

Like every rapper, it was a struggle to make it on his own. In 2015, PriceTag decided to get his CDL and enter into the trucking career field. It wasn’t until 2018 when PriceTag had a truck driving job in the oil field when he decided to start his music career. He figured that since he was making good money in the fields, he would invest in music.

Whenever possible, he would write and record his own songs in different cities during his free time. He entered the rap scene when he released his song “Money Bag” in late 2018, a song for truck drivers, specifically oilfield truckers who stayed out 24/7 working in the oil fields, which he recorded in Houston, Texas. That was also when he made his 1st big connection in the music industry, as he had worked with super producer June James AKA June The Jenius on his song “Money Bag.” June The Jenius has produced legendary songs throughout the state of Texas and the South with artists such as Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Z-Ro, Bun B, and Trae Tha Truth. Once PriceTag released his first single, he was determined to make it into the music industry and become a household name in rap.

PriceTag had a long wait after his song Money Bag until he had released another single, mostly because he was still getting the hang of the music industry. But in January of 2019, he released a song called ‘The Beginning,’ which he says is the claim to his rise in San Antonio. He wanted it to be known that he is here and here to stay and that it is the start of his reign in the South. Also the beginning of being a local legend throughout San Antonio.

PriceTag has traveled all over the country and is proud to say that he may be the only local rapper to have recorded in eight different states and eleven different cities, including Texas, Nevada, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Iowa, and New York.

As an independent artist, PriceTag was able to rise without the backing of a major record label and became the first OTR truck driving rapper with a global audience, and he’s slowly building it up constantly through networking.

Forever Independent, PriceTag’s debut album will be released later in 2020.
